Getting to know the double-wall and single-wall of Kenaf

Double-walled and single-walled plasterboard walls are one of the modern and popular methods for interior wall cladding in building.

As you may know, we have moved away from the era of constructing traditional houses using traditional materials and have entered a new era where architects use new systems for designing walls, ceilings, and more. Gypsum board, known as “knauf” in some contexts, is one of these systems and has gained a large number of fans due to its beauty and practicality.

Gypsum board walls, also known as “drywall” or “dry construction systems,” are among the modern and popular styles in European and American countries and have recently entered our country, receiving significant attention from the public.

In the knauf style, walls are produced as gypsum board cover sheets and are used in two forms: double-walled and single-walled, depending on the division of the building’s space. This idea was first developed in the Knauf company, which is considered the world’s first manufacturer of gypsum board cover sheets, and they named it “knauf.” It’s worth noting that knauf boards are designed and manufactured in various styles and are used in walls, ceilings, false walls, and more.

So far, we’ve learned that knauf walls are dry construction systems, commonly used in interior building design as non-load-bearing walls. Depending on the project type, you can choose from four types of knauf boards:

  1. Moisture-resistant boards
  2. Fire-resistant boards
  3. Moisture and fire-resistant boards
  4. Regular knauf boards

For example, moisture-resistant knauf boards are suitable for places like bathrooms, while using fire-resistant knauf boards is recommended for kitchen interiors.

Now, let’s discuss single-walled and double-walled knauf walls:

Single-Walled Knauf Walls:

Single-walled knauf walls consist of a row of structure and one panel layer on one side. They are one of the most popular types of knauf walls. These walls are lightweight, occupy minimal space, and are easy to install. They are commonly used to cover old walls and enhance their appearance, as well as for external cladding of various types of walls in residential, commercial, and office units. If you’re looking for a cost-effective wall covering that is quick to install, single-walled knauf walls are an excellent choice. Additionally, by using sound insulation behind the gypsum board panels, you can significantly reduce sound transmission.

Double-Walled Knauf Walls:

Double-walled knauf walls are another type of knauf walls, consisting of a row of structure and two panel layers on each side. The type of substructure used in these walls involves the use of sound insulation between the two gypsum board layers. As a result, sound transmission from one side to the other is significantly reduced. Double-walled knauf walls are primarily used as non-load-bearing partition walls in residential units, specialized care sections in hospitals, hotel rooms, and more.

Numerous Advantages of Knauf Walls:

Knauf walls offer a wide range of advantages, making them one of the most popular wall cladding options in the market:

High Construction Speed: Knauf walls are known for their quick installation, as they don’t require welding, mortar drying, and other time-consuming processes. In fact, their installation is approximately one-fourth of the time needed for traditional wall construction.

Low Weight: Due to their lightweight nature, knauf walls reduce the dead load on the building’s structure, leading to smaller column and structural dimensions and cost savings in construction.

High Flexibility: Knauf walls are highly flexible, allowing curved and arched designs, which can be challenging with traditional construction methods.

Reduction in Construction Waste: The materials used in these walls are up to 70% recyclable, significantly reducing construction waste compared to traditional methods.

Earthquake Resistance: The lightweight and flexible nature of knauf walls contributes to their remarkable earthquake resistance when compared to traditional walls.

Easy Painting and Decorating: Knauf walls are highly paintable and can be decorated with decorative stones and wallpaper. Their adhesive properties make them suitable for various design options.

Cost-Effective: If you prioritize the economic aspect, knauf walls are an excellent choice. Their quick and straightforward installation requires less labor, resulting in cost savings.
